six weeks to deeper sleep
Six weeks to deeper sleep is an evidence-based therapeutic yoga course designed to help you better understand your sleep, calm a busy nervous system and build a realistic toolbox for deeper rest.
Across these six weeks together, we’ll explore the science behind sleep through the lens of hormones, stress, the nervous system, movement, mindset and daily rhythms - combining accessible education with yoga practices designed to help your body and mind settle.
the plan
Each week will centre around a key educational topic that's vital for understanding your sleep. You can expect accessible information that's immediately useful in your journey to deeper sleep, combined with a guided practice to put the new knowledge to use.
All sessions will be recorded, and you'll be sent all the recordings to keep and revisit as and when you wish.
Week 1 - Sleep and your hormones
What you need to know about cortisol, melatonin, adenosine, stress chemistry and the practical steps we can take to decrease stress hormones, and increase sleep hormones.
Week 2 - Sleep and your daily rhythm
There are two big things that impact sleep, one of which is your circadian rhythm. This week is dedicated to understanding the impact of light, timing of food, movement and caffeine, and what you can usefully weave into your day to improve your sleep at night.
Week 3 - Sleep and your mind
This will be a huge week for many of us. If your mind starts whirling when your head hits the pillow, you can expect to start to understand why that happens, and how we can take steps to calm the mind to fall asleep, or to fall back to sleep with more ease.
Week 4 - Sleep and your nervous system
Building on the knowledge gained last week - sleep and your mind - this week will explore the impact of the nervous system on our sleep, including a brief overview of the fight or flight response, and how to activate the mode of nervous system activity needed for deeper sleep; the rest and digest response.
Week 5 - Sleep and your body
This week explores the relationship between sleep, movement, breathing and physical wellbeing, including how stress and poor sleep can become stored within the body over time, and what we can do about that.
Week 6 - Sleep and YOU
This final session brings together everything we've learned so far, with an intention setting meditation to keep going with your new understanding, and a compassion practice for when times are more challenging. We'll look at building a practical evening routine that you'll actually do, tools for middle-of-the-night waking and how to use your morning reset following a difficult night, to start afresh.
